Doctoral Degrees Online-How To Find One

Earning doctoral degrees online has now become an accepted way of life in academia.  This is a major breakthrough which is great news for anyone who’s ever considered going back to school to get a Ph. D or other terminal degree.  It wasn’t that long ago that such a thing was pretty much unthinkable.  Back in the 1990s, when the internet first started getting popular with the public, earning a Ph. D over the web was the last thing that many people could have ever imagined the internet being used for.

“Doctoral degrees online?!  You’ve got to be kidding!”  That would have been the reaction from about 99 percent of the people if you had asked them in 1995 what they thought about the idea of people getting their Ph. D over the internet.  Back then the worldwide web was for playing video games, buying and selling Beanie Babies, joining chat rooms, watching dancing hamsters, and maybe buying a book from Amazon every now and then.  The internet was seen as a very expensive toy, or maybe a newfangled hobby much like the CB radio craze of the late 1970s.  But the thought that it would ever be used for the highest levels of education crossed very few people’s minds.

But now, just a decade and a half later, all that has changed.  Nearly everyone is aware of the unlimited variety of uses and applications of the internet.  They’ve seen years of advertising inviting people to get their bachelor’s and associate’s degrees online.  Just about every major site has ads running constantly promoting the bigger online education programs.  And it took a few brave souls in the beginning to enroll in online doctoral programs, but the famous snowball effect eventually kicked in, and the trickle is on its way to becoming a flood.  Thousands of people have now earned doctoral degrees online, and they’re accomplishments are just as respected as those who’ve gone the brick and mortar route.  What a difference a few years makes.
