Doctorate Degree Online

How is getting a doctorate degree online different than doing it the old fashioned way?  Well, first, let’s look at the convenience factor.  Thousands of people in America pick up and move hundreds of miles to a strange city in order to pursue their dreams of getting a Ph. D degree.  Besides all the work involved, the monetary cost of the move alone can run into the thousands of dollars, which they will never get back.   If a person is single, that’s bad enough, but many people at this stage of their education have settled down and gotten married, and many of them even have children.  A move like that puts a huge stress on family life.

And it’s not just the cost of moving that makes getting a doctorate degree online a more attractive option.  Most Ph. D programs at brick and mortar schools are going to be quite a bit more expensive than online programs.  That’s just the nature of their operation.  They have expensive buildings and grounds to maintain, all sorts of student activities and extra curricular events to pay for, etc.  That money has to come from somewhere, and because Ph. D degrees are so valuable, many schools don’t hesitate to charge students in their doctoral programs as much as they think they can get away with.  They regard admittance to their programs as an elite privilege, and charge accordingly.

Finally, many of the traditional doctoral programs make an applicant agree not to work for a living while they earn their degree.  Since it can take anywhere up to five years to finish a Ph. D dissertation, this can be an enormous financial hardship.  This is especially true for anyone who’s been out of college and working for some time; in fact, it’s a big reason many people in this situation don’t go back to school for their Ph. D.  But there are many programs that will allow a person to earn a doctorate degree online while still working.  All in all, getting your doctoral degree online is a better way to go for most people.
