Online Education-A Not So New Concept!
Online education is one of the greatest things the internet revolution has brought us, and it has changed countless lives for the better. You’ll often see sociologists, psychologists, and other experts on TV decrying the impact the internet has had on our lives. And it’s true that they make some good points. Many people have gotten addicted to video games, or they waste hundreds of hours a year in chat rooms, or social networking sites. Online dating has certainly has some widely reported drawbacks, too. And some unscrupulous people have used the internet to cheat people out of money by perpetrating scams and ripoffs.
All that’s true, but that doesn’t take away from all the good things the internet has done. Online education is a big one, but it’s not the only one. The worldwide web has enabled families to stay in contact with each other across entire countries, and even on different continents, building stronger families. Sites like Ebay and others have helped people find the exact thing they’ve been looking for for years, or building a business by selling other people what they want or need. Craigslist has saved people hundreds of millions of dollars they would’ve paid to run classified ads in their local papers at exorbitant rates. Sites like Facebook have brought together long lost friends who haven’t seen each other in decades.
But of all these great innovations, online education has probably done more good than any other internet function. It has helped people change their lives in ways they never could have imagined, without ever having to leave their home. The ability to get a college or university degree in the privacy of your study or bedroom has has a revolutionary effect on many people’s careers and earning potential. It’s indisputable that some effects of the internet haven’t been positive, but you can’t say that about online education. It’s been a real life changer for millions of people across the globe.
